Kallah Dodi Come, my friend, to meet the bride; let us welcome the Sabbath.

Safed

Safed, Israel
Jerusalem, Israel
New York, NY

Date

July 2021

The performance represents holy seeking, searching for a way to create within the constructs as I ritualize lyrics from the Lecha Dodi, who is the divine woman and divine man, who is Shabbat and the Jewish people. In Jerusalem's flee market I bought myself a wedding dress. I painted it with some swirls and a snake but it was a work in progress. I owe the hostel in Safed their tallit found in a dusty shelf of the library. I covered with all sorts of pattern. The photo series takes on theme of recovering and restoration, It takes the tropes of female shame, modesty and searching to reveal the pain of the divine woman who has been sent from place to place abused trampled. I empathized with the divine's pain. Tallit means prayer shawl but it is not worn by woman in Orthodox communities, this whole performance felt very confusing - but beautifully rebellious.

SongsofShabbat

Let yourself fall into the  visions of song, a dance with the divine, unlock meditative light, and pray to hear it;  the calling  of Lecha, Lecha Dodi,  Kallah, my beloved  and Shabbat,  that drives me, I make each art piece with love.  And I am certain you can  feel her too, the Eternal Shekhinna,  within you, reawakening, you
You are light, and prayer, my soul.
