Arizal's kever
Safed, Israel
Kever Meir Baal Haness, Israel
It is a holy site -- a site of divine mercy.
Common practices at a Kever involve prayer, lighting a candle, giving Tzedeka.
Journey's
The Arizal's Kever in Safed
Rabbi Yitzchak Luria.
Rabbi Meir Baal Haness,
Kever in Tiberias
-
I combine the journey with creating artwork and reflection on the experience of the Kever - I allow myself to process the holy site with visual art.
The journeys are often met with opposition as in the Rabbi Nachman story.. .. of a man who had the need to travel to a lower Tzaddik .
A man was feeling very dull and he was encouraged by his friends' to travel to a Tzaddik. His father dissuaded him but he kept feeling this lack of Koach and they set out. The father says, if there is any opposition, we are turning back. First their wheels break, and the father says, look it is a sign from God we are not supposed to go. Again they set out again to go, something else happens. They are in a tavern and they hear gossip about the Tzaddik, they turn back home. The son dies a little while later. The son comes to his father in a dream and tell him to go visit the Tzaddik he didn’t get to visit in his lifetime. The father a little hesitantly sets out on the journey and meets the man who spoke gossip about him earlier. The man turns into the devil and the father sees how he was tricked by evil forces. When he gets to the Tzaddik he is told that the Tzaddik is an aspect of the higher luminary and his son the lower luminary, if they had met, Moshiach would have come. The father feels horrible.
